Here are some other case studies. Real people with real problems - some serious. Names have been included with the permission of the client.
Miss K O'Donnell - Age: 29 - Mental health care nurse
After a road traffic accident in December 2010, Miss O'Donnell had experienced a steadily increasing amount of pain in her neck and left shoulder with accompanying parasthesia ("pins and needles") of the left arm and hand. She had and MRI scan of her spine and nerve conduction tests without a positive diagnosis being decided upon. She also had trigger point injections to lessen the pain - which were of no help at all. She was taking medications daily which consisted of Tramadol, Diclofenac, Amytriptaline and Omeprazole (to help her stomach deal with the side effects of medication).
By April '11 she booked and appointment with me. After just ONE session her pain had reduced by 95% ! After the second session her pain had disappeared entirely. She booked a third session with me to counter the effects of a re-injury. After session three, she was once again completely pain free. She has returned to work and her friends and colleagues are amazed at her recovery.
Post script: In the two weeks covering the three treatment sessions Miss O'Donnell received a report from her orthopaedic consultant which stated that he could find no reason for her pain and could offer no treatment plan for her - apart from pain management and medication. Luckily she found Bowen...
Mr. CM - Age: 48 - Businessman
After 20 years of back pain Mr. CM was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease (DDD) at the 4th lumbar vertebra after a scan five years ago. He was in some discomfort and his back was very stiff. He was due to have facet joint injections into his spine very soon. Thankfully just two treatment sessions have virtually eliminated his pain and stiffness.
Mr. NH - Age: 57 - Business owner
Mr H's hospital report stated "degenerative disc disease is noted at L4/5, L5/S1 and also at L2/3. At L2/3 there is an extruded disc fragment...causing compression...and consequential neural entrapment. At L4/5 there is a broad based annular disc protrusion...There is impingement upon the adjacent nerve root. At L5/S1 there is a central disc protrusion...and neural entrapment". In simple terms Mr. H was a mess and the prognosis under hospital care wasn't good. He had considerable and unrelenting pain.
By the third treatment session with me his pain had decreased by 70%. At the start of the fourth session he had virtually no sypmtoms at all. In the following 2 weeks Mr. H injured himself and a lot of the pain returned (this happened because the spine was not yet strong enough to withstand the forces and pressures Mr. H exerted on his back). He was advised to moderate his activity and another three treatments relieved his pain completely. He has started a programme of back strengthening and core stability work through Pilates. He is active, pain free and very happy.
Mrs Gibson - Age: 68 - Occupation: retired
For more than 10 years Mrs Gibson was troubled with low back pain. She had many sessions of chiropractic treatment during this time. Late in 2008 the pain became much worse and, on occasion, she lost bladder and bowel control. Her doctor referred her for an MRI scan which revealed an 8mm forward slip of L4 vertebra on L5. (This is called a spondylolisthesis.) You can clearly see this on the MRI image that was taken on 16th December 2008. Look at the lower vertebrae how they are not aligned upon each other.
This type of back problem resulted in inability to walk very far, constant pain in the hip, groin, thigh and lower leg. She had had cortisone injections prior to starting Bowen treatment. They helped for a while but the pain returned.
After six treatments Mrs Gibson reported she had very little or no pain and that she had just completed a 3 mile walk! Additionally bowel and bladder function had returned to normal. She is very happy with the results we have obtained and I reproduce this MR image with her consent.
UPDATE...As of 21/7/09 Mrs Gibson reported no pain whatsoever.
Mr Holland - Age: 52 - Occupation: builder
A road traffic accident in 1990 left Mr Holland with whiplash, a broken right foot and bouts of back pain. This culminated in 1997 with pain being experienced 24/7 as left sided sciatic pain through to the calf and foot.
An MRI report dated 6th June 2007 noted " a mild broad-based posterior annular bulge" at L4/5 level with "age-related facet joint arthropathy at L4/5 and L5/S1 levels."
By the time we had concluded his seventh Bowen session, Mr Holland had no further pain and returned to full time building work. He is "over the moon" at his improvement and has referred many of his friends to me for Bowen.
Mrs Reid - Age: 44 - Occupation - Factory worker and homemaker
Sinus problems for 8 months during which time her GP prescribed anti-biotics and a steroid spray. An X-ray and CT scan were also ordered. Medication did nothing to improve the sinus pain and congestion in her head and the X-ray and CT were inconclusive. Just ONE session of Bowen cleared her congestion and she has had no pain in her face and head since. Another instance where Bowen could save the NHS ££££'s !
Mrs Bowker - Age: 44 - Occupation: Homemaker and part-time waitress
Mrs Bowker had been experiencing back pain since the mid 1980's. In the last 10 years pain would be triggered by the most inocuous and simple actions. The pain was most often left-sided - but not exclusively so. MRI report showed degeneration of the lumbar vertebral facet joints. She liked to go hill walking but had found this impossible as her back was very weak and without strength. She also experienced a lot of pain in her feet. She was finding her work as a part-time waitress harder and harder to do.
Incredibly after 2 treatments she found that she could go walking without pain or weakness in her back. After 4 sessions she was remarkably well. No back or foot pain. She now has a Bowen session just once a month to "keep it good".
Mr J.G. - Age: 58 - Occupation - Owns his own industrial cleaning business
Mr G. had a severe injury to his left thigh. There was extensive bruising and swelling to the quadriceps and he couldn't bend his knee due to the damage. He is a keen cyclist and engages in other sports such as skiing. Bowen treatment to the tissue damage resulted in an immediate improvement. After 3 sessions over a 2 week period Mr G. had virtually full knee movement restored and the pain had gone. He was very happy with the speedy result that enabled him to take a skiing trip shortly after as well as continue in his business.
